New City Hall
One of the most coveted photographic motifs of the city is the New City Hall in Hanover. Many tourists assume it’s a castle. The magnificent Wilhelmian building from 2013 is still the seat of the lord mayor of Hanover. This is where politics is carried out, where committees are held and where official guests to the city are received.
However, the doors are also open to tourists and it’s well worth a look inside. The curved lift to the dome of the New City Hall is globally unique; whilst being elevated to fantastic views, visitors are first transported vertically and then at a 17 degree angle to about 100m in height. On clear days it’s possible to see all the way to Harz!
