The Maritime week in Bremen is a yearly highlight not only for water lovers and hobby captains. It has become such a popular event in northern Germany that everyone wants to attend.
There´s a big ship parade, a Lampionfahrt where colorfully illuminated sport boats cruise the Weser, a firework above the water and much more. There´s also a lot of action on land: the maritime market, live acts and lectures on maritime research. And for anyone who still hasn´t found anything they like, they can sit in front of the many taverns and check out the boats.
Our personal favourite is the dragon boat cup taking place in the historical part of the city called Schlachte. At this spectacular event teamwork and fun are the two most important things. There are more than a dozen boats with paddlers young and old, big and small en route. And not a single one of them is eliminated during the race, that way every participant is somewhat a winner. The organizers provide the boats, experienced navigators and all of the needed material.
Not only known teams such as the Schlachte-Dragons or the Paulaner Vikings compete, but also teams that want to try it out and have fun are welcome to participate.
